How to Build a Water Fountain in Your Garden

!±8± How to Build a Water Fountain in Your Garden

Building a water fountain in your garden creates a refreshing sound of a flowing water like what you hear in a flowing stream. It adds the beauty of your garden due to its sizzling sound that invites a refreshing peaceful environment.

It seems you're setting in the midst of eternal happiness by the invigorating musical cascading sound of the fountain flowing water coupled with the decoration of varying flower blooms and the presence of butterflies and bees roaming around the vicinity.

To build your own water fountain is somewhat daunting in the first place. But, as you see your efforts, you realized the importance of establishing a water fountain to give benefits and beauty in your garden.

Steps in building your water fountain

1. Plan the size of your garden

Consider the area in your garden if it is large enough to construct a big fountain or a small one. So you've plan out the balance of you lot in relation to the size of the area and your home. There should be symmetry with your house and your fountain to maintain the right balance to create an attractive water fountain.

The best solution you can do is to get the service of an expert or engineer on water fountain construction to make sure you're doing it right. This way, you'll not waste your money in building your project.

2. Prepare the tools and materials

The following tools and materials should be available before you start the project:

• Big wash basin, large ceramic pot or large bowl. This is used as a catch-basin for the water to be used in your project.

• Piece of 1/8-inch or 1/4-inch plastic hose

• Small water fountain pump

• Spout statue, finial or rocks

• Shovel, rake, flexible tubing, plumbing fixtures

• Pair of scissors, wire cutter and electric drill

All these needed tools and materials should be ready to make your work easy and convenient. It would be daunting when you lack one of them, since the work would be delayed as scheduled.

3. Install the pump and attach the hose

After you've finished the necessary leveling and final touches in your fountain area, install the pump out in the basin and attach the plastic water hose according to the desired length you wish. Then attach the other end of the plastic hose to your pile of rocks or statue (depending on your own design how the water comes out from the hose) to allow the water to trickle up out from the piled rocks or spread in the statue.

4. Install an electrical outlet

It would be much better if your water fountain is close to an electrical outlet for ease in the connection to your pump. But, if it's far from the main source, hire an electrician to do the job if you've no knowledge about electricity. Don't ever do it yourself, your fountain might become a danger zone rather than a comfort zone.

5. Maintain the water level

Always check your catch-basin to maintain its water level capacity to ensure a continues flow of the water fountain which is what you aimed for - an attractive fountain in your garden.

There are other ways to establish your water fountain which you can copy. Depending on your capacity to spend to put up a costly project, it's only you who can decide. But the one I've shown here, is a simple one and does not need you to spend a large amount to install your attractive water fountain in your garden.

Solar Water Feature - Slate Stepped Fountain

What I really like about this water feature is that it features real slate. Natural stone fits into the garden landscape so much better than any man-made fibre. There is a timeless elegance about this water feature that would grace any garden, patio or conservatory. There is a delightful amount of water movement but no splashing - just a gentle trickle combined with the lovely sound of running water.

Solar Powered Fountain Pumps Explained

!±8± Solar Powered Fountain Pumps Explained

You can make any garden pond look so much better by simply adding a beautiful water fountain. If it's really hot then such a fountain will make you relaxed. Birds and wildlife will also love this running water. All of the birds attracted to your water fountain will make a nice change to what you normally look at!

All fountains have one thing in common, they all use pumps to move the water around. If the water is not moved then it will become stagnant and not be quite as attractive! These pumps are commonly run with electricity which isn't exactly cheap. You need to run your fountain 24 hours a day for it to be effective and so it can cost a lot of money to run each month.

I'm not suggesting that you simply don't get a fountain because that would be a silly idea. Instead you could install a solar powered pump for your fountain. Solar powered pumps get their electricity from the sun, in a similar way to the plants in your garden get their energy. Installing solar powered pumps is easy, and they are completely free to run.

How do Solar Power Fountain Pumps Work?

All solar powered pumps have a solar panel attached. This solar panel collects sun light and converts it into electrical energy. The pump can then use this electricity to circulate the water in your pond. You should carefully make sure that the pump you buy is suitable for the volume of water you intend to move with it. The size is rated by gallons per hour to make it easy to compare different types of pump.

Another really great feature of solar powered pumps is that during the day they don't use all of the electricity they generate. Instead of simply wasting this they store it in batteries. This should mean that your pond pump will have enough power left over to last through the night. Because solar powered pumps do not have to be wired into your home they can be placed pretty much anywhere without any unsightly wires messing up your garden. You don't need to worry about locating this near to a power point. You could install a number of solar powered fountains relatively easily.

There are some fantastic benefits to installing a solar powered fountain pump, so why don't you consider fitting one? These pumps look after the environment, and save you money what could be better? You can place the fountain wherever you like, they're ideal! Solar power is a wonderful technology which is bound to grow in popularity.
