How to Build a Water Fountain in Your Garden

!±8± How to Build a Water Fountain in Your Garden

Building a water fountain in your garden creates a refreshing sound of a flowing water like what you hear in a flowing stream. It adds the beauty of your garden due to its sizzling sound that invites a refreshing peaceful environment.

It seems you're setting in the midst of eternal happiness by the invigorating musical cascading sound of the fountain flowing water coupled with the decoration of varying flower blooms and the presence of butterflies and bees roaming around the vicinity.

To build your own water fountain is somewhat daunting in the first place. But, as you see your efforts, you realized the importance of establishing a water fountain to give benefits and beauty in your garden.

Steps in building your water fountain

1. Plan the size of your garden

Consider the area in your garden if it is large enough to construct a big fountain or a small one. So you've plan out the balance of you lot in relation to the size of the area and your home. There should be symmetry with your house and your fountain to maintain the right balance to create an attractive water fountain.

The best solution you can do is to get the service of an expert or engineer on water fountain construction to make sure you're doing it right. This way, you'll not waste your money in building your project.

2. Prepare the tools and materials

The following tools and materials should be available before you start the project:

• Big wash basin, large ceramic pot or large bowl. This is used as a catch-basin for the water to be used in your project.

• Piece of 1/8-inch or 1/4-inch plastic hose

• Small water fountain pump

• Spout statue, finial or rocks

• Shovel, rake, flexible tubing, plumbing fixtures

• Pair of scissors, wire cutter and electric drill

All these needed tools and materials should be ready to make your work easy and convenient. It would be daunting when you lack one of them, since the work would be delayed as scheduled.

3. Install the pump and attach the hose

After you've finished the necessary leveling and final touches in your fountain area, install the pump out in the basin and attach the plastic water hose according to the desired length you wish. Then attach the other end of the plastic hose to your pile of rocks or statue (depending on your own design how the water comes out from the hose) to allow the water to trickle up out from the piled rocks or spread in the statue.

4. Install an electrical outlet

It would be much better if your water fountain is close to an electrical outlet for ease in the connection to your pump. But, if it's far from the main source, hire an electrician to do the job if you've no knowledge about electricity. Don't ever do it yourself, your fountain might become a danger zone rather than a comfort zone.

5. Maintain the water level

Always check your catch-basin to maintain its water level capacity to ensure a continues flow of the water fountain which is what you aimed for - an attractive fountain in your garden.

There are other ways to establish your water fountain which you can copy. Depending on your capacity to spend to put up a costly project, it's only you who can decide. But the one I've shown here, is a simple one and does not need you to spend a large amount to install your attractive water fountain in your garden.

Solar Water Feature - Slate Stepped Fountain

What I really like about this water feature is that it features real slate. Natural stone fits into the garden landscape so much better than any man-made fibre. There is a timeless elegance about this water feature that would grace any garden, patio or conservatory. There is a delightful amount of water movement but no splashing - just a gentle trickle combined with the lovely sound of running water.

Pond Solar Systems - Solar System Aeration

!±8± Pond Solar Systems - Solar System Aeration

Solar pond bubbler aeration improves water quality, and prevents winter fish kills! Solar pond bubbler aerator operates day & night. Typically, 1 million gallons of pond water only holds a maximum of 2-6 pounds of oxygen. Not much, and it goes away quickly when aeration is interrupted. Only a 24/7 aeration system can maintain and improve water quality. When you purchase a solar aeration system look for the best quality and price, and a manufacturer that is so sure of their aerators, they put links to their competitors on their site.

All solar pond bubbler aerators can be used in any depth pond. The deeper the pond, the better the system will work because there is more fresh, warm water to circulate. Also the system will work better in a larger pond with more water in it. Solar systems are designed to keep water available in cold weather and improve water quality in warm weather. They are not designed to keep the whole pond ice free, especially when the outside air temperature reaches 0 degrees.

There are many solar powered aeration systems. Look for a system that does not require a degree in electrical engineering, or a contractor's license for installation near any public access, and are not a daily maintenance nightmare. Solar pond bubbler aerators if properly engineered should have no installation cost, no additional wiring cost, and need no priming. You should be able to just clamp the solar panel to a pole, and squeeze the battery clamps in place. You then should be able to attach the non pluggtng diffuser to the float which is furnished in all well designed systems. See manufacturer specifications for maximum diffuser depth, and do not allow the diffuser to touch the bottom. Drop the diffuser in the water and it aerates. Solar aerators restore lakes, ponds, water gardens, golf course water ponds, and aerate thousands of fish daily.

Look for a system with a one year warranty on all parts, 3 year warranty on pump motor (replace diaphragm annually). 5 year warranty on solar panels. You will have to furnish low profile automotive battery, rated at 300-600 amps, and a pole to mount solar panel on most systems.

Do your part to increase the world's pure oxygen supply!! Water algae produces the oxygen you are breathing now, but at night they need your help!! Aeration is necessary to maintain oxygen in pond water to keep it healthy. The oxygen content decreases rapidly at night. The algae, which produce excess oxygen during the day, switch metabolism at night and use up pond water oxygen. This natural process depletes almost all of the waters oxygen supply. If the biological balance is destroyed all pond life could die within hours. Using a solar aerator increases water circulation, prevents stagnation, and injects oxygen into the water. And guess where the big fish hang out! The big fish are in the high oxygen aeras.
